I. Cultivation Objectives
This professional training has high political thought quality, master the scientific world outlook and methodology, have a solid economic theory foundation and skilled mathematical analysis ability, system master the basic theory, basic methods and basic skills, with strong scientific research ability and innovation ability, can independently engaged in scientific research, higher education and economic management work, morality, intelligence and physique all-round development of high-level innovative talents.
Adhere to the four cardinal principles, resolutely implement the party's line, principles and policies, system of marxism and MAO zedong thought and the system of theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics, uphold the party's basic line, love the motherland, law-abiding, good moral character, having both ability and political integrity, style is rigorous, with strong dedication and dedication, positive service for the socialist modernization construction.
(2) Possess a solid and broad foundation in disciplinary theories and systematic, in-depth specialized knowledge in finance. Maintain a wide international perspective, proficiently master academic research methodologies within the discipline, and stay abreast of the latest research trends both domestically and internationally. Demonstrate innovative consciousness and capabilities, capable of independent scientific research and certain teaching abilities. Achieve creative accomplishments in science or specialized technology.
(3) Proficiently utilize foreign languages to read disciplinary literature, possess strong writing skills, engage in international academic exchanges, and exhibit excellent oral communication abilities.
(4) Maintain good physical health and mental resilience, adapting to the demands of academic pursuits and future careers.
II. Basic Requirements for Doctoral Degrees
(1) Fundamental Knowledge for Doctoral Graduation in Financial Engineering
Doctoral students in finance must possess a solid and extensive foundation in economic theories, profound and systematic knowledge in finance, as well as rigorous and meticulous logical thinking abilities. On the basis of mastering mathematical analysis methods and techniques, they should have the ability to combine the theoretical knowledge of economics and finance, scientific experience and research methods with financial practice, and effectively explain economic phenomena and their laws. The knowledge structure that doctoral students should master includes the following five aspects:
1. Fundamental economic theories. Comprehensive understanding of Marxist political economy, modern macroeconomics, and microeconomics theories.
2. Research methods: On the basis of mastering the systematic theoretical framework of applied economics, we should have the good ability to study and analyze economic phenomena and problems; have comprehensive mathematical knowledge and strong logical reasoning ability, and can put forward innovative views on solving practical problems.
3. Basic knowledge of economics in the professional field: focus on mastering the basic theories, development status and frontier issues of the development of the discipline. We should understand the historical development process of our major, and understand its status in the discipline of applied economics and its relationship with other disciplines.
4. Professional literature in research fields. It is necessary to extensively read professional dissertations published in authoritative academic journals at home and abroad to understand the scientific research trends, development directions and academic frontiers in specific research fields, and should screen the corresponding viewpoints and conclusions of the authors of the dissertations with a critical attitude.
5. Foreign language proficiency. It is necessary to master a foreign language (mainly English) proficiently and have strong international academic communication skills.
(2) Basic qualities to be awarded the doctoral degree in this specialty
Academic literacy: Doctoral students should have the spirit of advocating science and a strong interest in academic research, and have a sense of historical mission and social responsibility to serve the society, and respect scientific research and intellectual property rights. He has the consciousness of extensive participating in academic exchange activities, the ability and quality of independent thinking, the scientific spirit of seeking truth from facts and the rigorous attitude of scholarship, the ability to systematically acquire knowledge, the ability to apply knowledge and innovate.
Academic ethics: Doctoral students should abide by academic ethics, abide by discipline and law, and must implement and strengthen the awareness of following academic ethics. Honest and objective, serious, adhere to the truth, respect science, rigorous style of study, innovation, have good moral cultivation and noble moral sentiment.
(1) Basic academic competencies required for obtaining a doctoral degree in Financial Engineering
1. Ability to acquire knowledge: Doctoral students should have the ability to acquire the relevant research frontier of the discipline from various literature, comprehensively and systematically grasp the research literature in the field, and effectively obtain the required relevant professional knowledge and research methods.
2. Academic identification ability: Doctoral students should have the ability to make value judgment on "research problems, research processes and existing achievements", and can design research methods to practice research topics, so as to establish a basic research framework for the creation of academic papers.
3. Scientific research ability: Doctoral students should have the ability to ask questions, independently carry out high-level research, organize and coordinate, and conduct engineering practice ability (such as programming and software use, etc.).
4. Academic innovation ability: Doctoral students should have the ability to carry out innovative thinking, conduct innovative scientific research and obtain innovative results in their professional field. We should have an open and inclusive academic attitude, a critical spirit and innovative thinking, be able to find new problems, put forward new methods, establish new models, carry out cross and pioneering research, and fill in the gaps or achieve original results.
5. Academic exchange ability: Doctoral students should actively participate in academic activities at home and abroad, conduct extensive cooperation and exchanges, and make full use of high-quality resources such as key disciplines and key laboratories to cultivate innovative consciousness and academic exchange ability.
6. Teaching ability: Doctoral students should have a comprehensive and systematic teaching ability to improve their own scientific research quality and professional quality, and effectively complete the teaching practice or teaching assistant tasks.

IV. Curriculum Settings
The total number of doctoral students is 35 credits. There are 21 credits for compulsory courses and 3 credits for elective courses. Curriculum setting and credit allocation are shown in Supplementary Table 1.
V. Practice and Innovation
This section refers to the requirements of “Chapter 4: Practical and Innovative Cultivation” in the “Administrative Measures of Doctoral Cultivation of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics” (Graduate School of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics [2021] No. 16).
VI. Basic Dissertation Requirements
The basic requirements of the dissertation shall be implemented in accordance with the requirements of “Chapter 5 Doctoral Degree (Graduation) Dissertation” in the “Administrative Measures of Doctoral Cultivation in Shanxi University of Finance and Economics” (Graduate School of Shanxi University of Finance and Economics [2021] No. 16); and the format of the writing shall be implemented in accordance with the “Shanxi University of Finance and Economics Graduate thesis writing template (2019 Edition)”.
