On the afternoon of November 5th, 2023, the School of Finance held the 19th Lecture Hall of “Financial Theory Innovation and Practical Exploration”. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Cui Jie, Vice Dean of the School of Finance, and Sushanta Mallick, professor of International Finance at Queen Mary's School of Business and Management in London, was invited to give a lecture on the topic of “Do wealth management products exacerbate bank systemic risk? Evidence from China”. Some faculty members and doctoral students of the School of Finance attended the lecture.
Prof. Sushanta shared his latest research findings from the perspectives of research background, research significance, theoretical mechanisms, empirical tests, and research conclusions.
Prof. Sushanta reviewed the research progress on bank wealth management products and systemic risk, discussed the impact of financial products on systemic risk under different sources of funds, and explained its mechanism; According to the data of 37 Chinese listed banks, he established an empirical model of the impact of wealth management products on systemic risk based on calculating the systemic risk using the baseline methodology, and had conclusions which are significant to the reality.
After the sharing, Prof. Sushanta had a more in-depth discussion and exchange with the teachers and students on the paper’s topic selection and research methodology, etc. He patiently and meticulously answered the questions raised by the teachers and students. At last, on behalf of all the teachers and students, Vice Dean Cui Jie expressed thanks to Prof. Sushanta.
